How Paracetamol Works

Paracetamol works by blocking the production of prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord. Prostaglandins are chemicals released by the body in response to illness or injury, and they cause pain and fever. By reducing prostaglandin production, paracetamol effectively lowers temperature and relieves mild to moderate pain.

Unlike NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, paracetamol does not reduce inflammation, making it gentler on the stomach and suitable for a wider range of patients.

Dosage & Administration

Adults and children aged 16 and over: Take one to two tablets (500mg–1000mg) every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets (4000mg) in 24 hours. Do not take more frequently than every 4 hours.

Swallow tablets whole with water. Can be taken with or without food. If symptoms persist for more than 3 days, consult your pharmacist or doctor.

Paracetamol 500mg Tablets FAQ

Paracetamol can be taken alongside many other medications, including ibuprofen. However, avoid taking it with other products that contain paracetamol (such as cold and flu remedies) as this can lead to overdose. Always check the ingredients of other medicines and ask your pharmacist if unsure.
